JFighterz is a passion project video game I’m planning on creating to present J-Fashion through the medium of video games. The gaming sphere tends to be a toxic and unsafe environment for feminine-presenting, queer, or alternative people. As someone who is all of the above yet completely enamored by the gaming industry, I have made it my purpose to create safe spaces in gaming and to create games for people who may also love J-Fashion.
As part of this, I stream on Twitch. One of the great things about streaming on Twitch is that my viewers share the same love for art and games as I do. When creating these characters, I had my chat give input on their designs. These characters not only represent the importance of J-Fashion in my life but also represent my community and like-minded people who want to see more of J-Fashion in games.
These were the first five characters I had designed, each being inspired by a different J-Fashion subculture. Each character was also inspired by friends or mutuals of mine who participate in the presented fashion. I specifically chose the genre of fighting game to allow myself complete creative control over designs and animations, wanting to make them bright, colorful, and fast. The vision of the game is very much inspired by Skullgirls and Guilty Gear.
